Dwell Well Support – Bedford

Helping make homes

Welcome to Dwell Well Support – Bedford, a local initiative established and administered by St Mary’s Church, Goldington – inspired to help people moving into self-supporting accommodation. Our support is available to all without reference to colour, faith, sexual orientation or background.

We help change a room or house into a home by providing a starter pack of new/like-new essential items.

  • 1 x frying pan (if no frying pan another saucepan)
  • 4 x dinner plates
  • 4 x side plates
  • 4 x cereal bowls
  • 4 x mugs
  • 4 x drinking tumbler glasses (not wine or beer)
  • Kitchen utensils i.e. wooden/plastic stirrers x 2 min./tin opener
  • 16-piece cutlery set (4 of each: forks, knives, tablespoons and teaspoons)
  • Toiletries i.e. 1 x toothbrush, 1 x toothpaste, 1 x roll-on deodorant, 1 x flannel, 1 x pack of tissues, 1 x shower gel/soap bar

We have already supplied over 200 of these tenancy packs since starting in March 2021.
Our grateful thanks to everybody who has supported and continues to support this initiative.

We would like to grow the support we offer and continue to offer duvets and pillows with the tenancy packs.
Health regulations require duvets and pillows to be new and we can only purchase these with more funding.
Could you, family and friends help? Could the company you work for help? Please get in touch.

Please note if using a Sat Nav, please enter the postcode MK41 0AN.
Please place your donations into the marked crates under the Church Hall entrance porch.

How we work
Usually a key worker from a 3rd party agency e.g. Bedford Borough Council (Rough Sleeper Navigator, Local Lettings Officer, Social Worker etc.); SMART CJS; a Probation Officer; an Officer at a local Women’s Centre (Domestic Abuse), contacts us to request a package (or several!) and we get one/them ready within a week or two for them to collect and get to their client.

On rare occasions, we have also used our discretion if a person presents themselves to us – even if it’s only to give what they desperately need e.g. a tin opener and some toiletries.

Where stocks allow, if we can help, we will. We also have contacts with other organisations who can offer similar support if we cannot.

Some Reviews (names only appear with permission) from some of our 3rd party referrers or clients

Thank you to all who gave. Me and my daughter now have a chance for a fresh start. We moved in three weeks ago with nothing but some clothes and odd bits and pieces. With your Dwell Well box and extras like duvets – we are settling in well. (Client, April 2024)

Bedford Borough Council has worked with St Mary’s for several years now and you have helped so many of our customers who we have moved into their own accommodation after several months and even years of being homeless.
Your dedication and your assistance is first class and always very much appreciated.
Keep up the good work all of you, a wonderful Team. (Bedford Borough Council’s Local Lettings Officer, February 2025)

Thank you very much for the starter packs yesterday, it was really interesting and heart-warming to see the kind of things you offer to the community, a lot of our clients would really struggle without this assistance and I have already personally seen how happy the kits can make people. We really appreciate the help and hope we can continue to work together to make the community a better place. (Bedford Borough Council’s Bookings Officer for Temporary Accommodation, February 2025)
